Good News! May 2019

Time flies and it’s now the end of May!

Two good things to report. The first is that St Roberts Church in Harrogate recently raised £18,000 for the school during their Lent Project! This money will go towards the building of two further classrooms. This was due to generosity of the many parishioners and the work of Kate Rutherford and Paul Barry. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated to the project and supported us to date.

Secondly, we have some new photos to show progress of the four new classrooms which are part of phase 1 of the project. The latrines are now finally dug and the huge lump of rock excavated. The building is being done by the community and local contractors. The villagers are making the perimeter fence out of stone and succulents which the wild animals won’t (we are told) want to eat!

New teachers are shortly to be appointed for the new classes and new uniforms and text books will be in place for September. The new Ethiopian and UK flags should also be flying high soon.

Our four year project is now one year into its journey. We are still looking to raise £150,000 in order to take the school to pupils aged 14. We are therefore looking for large organisations interested in sponsoring us or individuals who feel able to contribute. If you know of any organisation or individual please let us know!
