New Fence and Flags!

We’ve just got the news that the community have raised the funding we requested for a fab new fence around the school. That should help keep out sheep, goats and cattle and our children in! Next, we’ll be putting up school signage and a few national flags!

We’re now onto finalising exciting new plans for 2020-2021 which include the refurbishment of four previous classrooms, building a water station and putting up some football and volleyball posts. We hope to be opening our Grade 5 classroom in September 2020.

Alongside Link Ethiopia (our partner NGO), we’re also training the new teachers and providing some lovely new resources to support them.

I’d like to thank Kate Rutherford who has recently volunteered with Link Ethiopia, and who has been to visit and support the school. Kate led some staff training on new resources and how to use them. We’ve created counting number sticks for number work out of broom handles and insulation tape. We’ve made counters from water bottle tops; it’s amazing what you can do with virtually nothing in Ethiopia!

Our donations have now risen to almost £30,000 and we are indebted to all those who have supported us. This is now over half way to our donation target of £100,000 by 2022. Please keep supporting us!

We’ve recently been asked to record a podcast for The Harrogate Podcast. If you’re interested this can be found at https://www.theharrogatepodcast.co.uk/podcast/episode-32-sue-eland-building-futures-ethiopia/  I’ve also been asked to do a talk at ‘Tapas and Tales’ in Ripon on Weds Oct 19th 2020: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tapas-and-tales-oct-2020-re-schedule-from-march-tickets-89266896691

Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, our charity event on March 21st has had to be postponed. But don’t worry! We’ll be back next year; Sat March 20th 2021 is the new date for your diary!
